Creating custom cannabis oil formulations is not as easy as one may think. Wellgreens CA is equipped with the technology, as well as expert chemists, scientists and technicians on staff, to work with clients to come up with custom formulations. Our custom formulation abilities comes from our incredible bank of cannabis compounds like terpenes, distillate oil or even live resin. Terpenes, combined with cannabinoids, are responsible for the different flavors, smells and effects.
Turning flower into oil is a multi-step process. First we conduct a terpene and cannabinoid test on the flower in our lab to determine what compounds are present. Once we see what ingredients are needed to replicate the same aromas and taste in the final oil product, we reproduce the formulation by following customer ratios, or we enhance it by request.
Did you know?
Terpenes do not only occur naturally in cannabis, but also in plants found throughout the world such as fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices. Terpenes are commonly found in the human diet and recognized as safe by the Food and Drug Administration. Another common way to think of terpenes is as an essential oil. All plants contain essential oils and each type has a different chemical composition that affects how it smells, how it is absorbed, and how it is used by the body. Even the oils from varieties of plants within the same species may have chemical compositions different from each other – cannabis is a great example of that.
The Effects of Terpenes
Terpene profiles complement cannabis much more than by adding taste, in fact they play a big role in the medicinal effects of cannabinoids. When ingesting cannabis, strain specific terpenes can change the way that THC and CBD interacts with our bodies (this is also known as the Entourage Effect ). For example, beta-caryophyllene is a type of terpene found in essential oils of black pepper, oregano, green, leafy vegetables and cannabis. It is gastro-protective, good for treating certain ulcers, and shows great promise as a therapeutic compound for inflammatory conditions and autoimmune disorders because of its ability to bind directly to the peripheral cannabinoid receptor known as CB2.
The unique makeup of terpenes for each strain enables the user to determine specific effects they want to feel. At Wellgreens CA, we believe a great product isn’t just about the THC ratio, but terpene profiles and taste take just as much importance. We strive to make formulations that maintain the same therapeutic effects as the original plant. We enjoy working with our clients to come up with new vape oil formulations and have an extensive library of available strains, terpene isolates and flavors. Our offerings don’t stop there, though. We can create any formulation a client wants based on preferred strain or flavor.
